Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from an ethnically diverse background. Jacqueline's father Elroy is Sri Lankan (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim, a Malaysian. Jacqueline is the oldest of two siblings and a younger sibling. She was raised and born in Bahrain. The family of her parents moved there in the 1980s because of civil unrest within Sri Lanka. After her schooling in Bahrain, she was awarded an Scholarship to attend Sydney's University of Sydney, where she pursued a diploma of Media and Communications in Sydney, Australia. She was also a student at in the Berlitz School of Foreign Languages, that helped her learn French, Arabic and Spanish. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March 2006. She also competed as Miss Universe 2006 also. In 2006, she was awarded the Miss Sri Lanka title. After that, she went into the world of television, hosting a program on Sri Lankan companies called Lanka Business Report. Padukone's father was a badminton player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has had a childhood in Copenhagen and Bangalore. In her teens, she competed at national-level badminton events, but she backed off the sport to become a fashion designer. Padukone is of Mangalorean origin Her mother language is Konkani. Padukone is located in Kundapura Taluk of Karnataka's Udupi District. Her father, Prakash Padukone, is an ex-badminton player with world-class fame, while her mother is a travel consultant.
